Come and salute these cuddly new recruits to our ever-expanding menagerie.
Three Black-tailed Prairie Dogs arrived at the centre and moved into their purpose-built enclosure in early 2011. The enclosure was designed to be landscaped in a way that would allow the Prairie Dogs to dig out their own network of underground tunnels, whilst also providing a great viewing experience for visitors.
Two of the Prairie Dogs were named Will and Kate, in celebration of the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and the third will be named after the ‘real’ Will and Kate’s first child!
Prairie Dog Camp is also home to the very charismatic Striped Skunk, Bumbles, who has his own private sleeping quarters (although does occasionally venture down the Prairie Dog burrows to explore!). Both Prairie Dogs and Striped Skunks are native to North America and look great together in the large enclosure.
