Coronavirus: Important Visitor Information
What you need to know when booking your visit following the easing of restrictions.
We understand our visitors have differing concerns regarding Covid-19. We therefore encourage visitors to continue to wear masks or face coverings in all indoor areas of the park unless exempt. We also ask visitors to be mindful of others by keeping a safe distance from each other and to regularly wash and sanitise their hands.
As a small centre, the health and safety of our visitors, staff and animals is paramount. As space and car parking facilities are limited, to ensure our visitors have a safe and pleasant experience we will continue to operate at a reduced capacity and require all visitors to book in advance online and a 3hour stay will remain in place for the time being.
We will need everyone to book online prior to their visit, including members, rainy day return ticket holders and carers.
How do we book?
Click here to book tickets for general admission, members, rainy day return passes and carers.
Once booked tickets cannot be refunded but dates can be transferred subject to giving 48 hours notice and an administration fee will be charged.
When can we visit and how long can we stay?
We are open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Our opening hours may vary throughout the year.
Our current opening hours are: Weekdays: 11am -3.30pm and Weekends / School Holidays: 10am - 5.30pm
We have introduced arrival times to help alleviate queues and allow for safe distancing. Each visit will be for a duration of three hours maximum with no re-admission. You will be asked to select an arrival time when making your booking online*. We ask that you please arrive at your agreed time as we cannot guarantee entry to visitors who arrive outside of this.
*Please note your arrival time e.g., if your booking is for 11am - 2pm then your arrival time is 11am.
Can we use a promotional voucher?
We regret that we are unable to accept any promotional offers or discounts at this time.
Membership and Gift Vouchers
A limited number of tickets will be made available for our members each day. The percentage of tickets will be based on our average number of member visits recorded during the same pre-covid period. Members must still book online to allow us to maintain our maximum number of visitors per day.
If you have a great time when visiting why not take out a membership during your visit and we will refund the cost of your admission. This can only be done on the day of your visit.
If you have a Tropical Butterfly House or Yorkshire Attractions Group Gift Voucher, please check the booking site for ticket availability and email info@butterflyhouse.co.uk with the date you would like to attend and preferred arrival time.
Accessibility and Carers
An official carer will be admitted free of charge when accompanying a full paying child or adult (one free carer per child or adult, normal admission charges apply to any additional carers).
Carers must be included within your booking and should provide ID from Care Home/Employer, Care Allowance Claim Letter, a Metro bus pass for disabled which states 'Plus One' or a DWP/DLA/PIP letter that states that you are in receipt of a Carer's Allowance or the middle or highest rate of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment.
All areas of the park are accessible apart from one pond viewing area in the tropical house. Wheelchairs are available to hire subject to a deposit and availability. We have accessible toilet facilities.
Caring for all
Whilst visiting, we kindly ask you to respect and make space for each other, especially in indoor and enclosed areas or pathways around the park.
Let’s be on the safe side - we recommend face coverings be worn in our indoor areas, thank you.
Please wash and sanitise your hands at regular intervals using the washing facilities. We have intensified our daily cleaning procedures and our staff will be wearing face coverings to ensure that they and visitors are protected whilst onsite. Toilets will be open at Lottie’s Coffee Lounge, Indoor Activity Centre and Outdoor Play Park.
What can I see and do when visiting?
For the time being, we regret we are unable to feature our usual programme of animal talks and displays.
There are still lots of fun things to enjoy - our playparks, sandpits and splash zone are open throughout the summer and kids watch out - you’ll quake in your boots on the Dino Trail or can grab a gift in the Jungle Gift Shop!
Why not purchase an animal feed bundle including live mealworms to feed our meerkats, chickens, ducks and fish, grass nuts to feed our goats, a veggie pot to feed our guinea pigs, wallabies, porcupines and goats and a nectar pot to feed our lovely lorikeets!
Otter Fish Pots are a bitesize fun way to feed our otter family or treat the family to a VIP lemur feeding experience for up to 6 people – all available to add on to your booking, subject to availability.
Our tractor trailer rides, face painting and interactive event activities are also postponed, however a self-led activity trail is available.
It’s lovely at Lottie’s Coffee Lounge with glorious blooms and views from the outdoor patio area. Indoor and outdoor seating is available for eat-in or takeaway food and drink. Afternoon tea boxes, children’s picnic boxes and pizza deals are all available to book online.
Dine in one of our stunning new dining pods available for all visitors to enjoy or bookable for a special occasion for a small charge.
The Big Red Bus Snack Stop will be open at weekends and throughout school holidays (subject to weather conditions). The Butterfly Café remains closed.
Feeling unwell
Please do not travel to visit us if you or any member of your group are showing any symptoms of Covid-19 (or have come into contact with someone has experienced symptoms of Covid-19 in the last 14 days). The Tropical Butterfly House and Lottie’s remain the right to refuse entry to anyone who we feel is showing signs of Covid-19.
IMPORTANT: Please find a link to further information you will need to consider before making a booking in order to follow the correct government guidelines.
