4 baby goats are born here at the park!

It has been an emotional time at the park as three of our resident goats have given birth to four babies. Sadly our first goat to go into labour on 22 January, Beauty, who was born at the wildlife centre in 2009, had a complicated birth, and she and her first baby did not survive. The amazing staff at Portland Vets however managed to save the second baby’s life by performing an emergency caesarian section...

The miracle baby boy has been named Beau in honour of his mother. In the first few nerve-wracking days Beau, a baby pygmy goat, was cared for around the clock in the Small Animal House by dedicated animal staff until he was strong enough to join the rest of the goats in the Farm Barn.

Just a few days later, on 26 January, two more baby pygmy goats arrived, Sprinkles and Gaston, to mother Pepper. Sprinkles joined Beau in the Small Animal House as she needed monitoring; Beau and Sprinkles have since built a strong bond and where Beau goes, Sprinkles is right behind him.

The following week, on 3 February, a fourth baby was born to mum Nell, animal staff have named the baby pygmy/Saanen goat Floss, as she is completely white, and looks the spitting image of her grandmother Flo. Floss is very energetic, and is a big fan of jumping!
