Did you know a group of butterflies is known as a kaleidoscope!
These newly emerged butterflies looked just the part as they appeared on a sunny afternoon mid-December and were captured on camera by Headkeeper Steve in the Tropical House.
Sunshine makes butterflies especially active on a bright day!
Headkeeper Steve also captured a shot of one of our newly emerged blue banded morpho butterflies. These amazing butterflies are found living in the rainforests of Argentina, Suriname, Bolivia Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Paraguay and Brazil. The adult butterflies feed on fermenting ripe fruits and faecal waste, whereas the caterpillars feed on a variety of plants in the legume family.
