This Endangered Species Day let's spotlight some of the incredible species here at the park and remember why this day is so important - to raise awareness about threatened wildlife and inspire action for their protection.

Meet D'Artagnan, our magnificent red-ruffed lemur here at Lemur Heights! Red-ruffed lemurs like D'Artagnan are classified as 'Critically Endangered' by the IUCN and frequently appear on the list of the world's 25 most endangered primates.

Lemurs are the most endangered group of mammals on our planet. A staggering 98% of all lemur species face the threat of extinction with a heartbreaking 31% categorised as critically endangered.

During our Lemur Talk*, you'll be sure to see our troop of ring-tailed lemurs who are also sadly classified as Endangered, whilst learning fascinating facts as you connect with these playful primates!

Don't miss our Animal Antics show! Taking place daily at 12.30pm in the arena and featuring our spectacular free-flying green winged macaws!*

Whilst currently listed as 'Least Concern', these beautiful birds serve as a vital flagship species for all macaw populations in the wild by helping us to highlight the concerning trend of decreasing stability due to significant threats like habitat loss, deforestation and the pressures of the pet trade.

Meet our very own Turkish Delight! Our Northern Bald Ibis Turkish, is one of four here at the park. Threatened by hunting, habitat loss and poisoning, moving from Critically Endangered to Endangered on the IUCN Red List is a hopeful sign for these birds with their population stabilising thanks to conservation efforts.
Turkish (who we originally thought was a male until she laid eggs!) turns 20 years old next month and has successfully bred here at the park in the past, helping to boost numbers of her amazing species too - what a delight she is!
