Tint Tea Party, Huge Milestone! On Friday 8 May, visitors can witness an extraordinary display of instinct and imagination right here in the heart of the Butterfly House. Our industrious leafcutter colony will act as the perfect party host by embarking on a ‘celebratory march’ from their delightful tea party setting, along the winding ‘ant highway’ trail, carrying tiny ‘bunting’ made of trumpet-shaped leaves and colourful petals in honour of Sir David’s milestone birthday.

Our team will also be delivering a series of ‘remarkable’ nature talks and animal encounters throughout this special day including conservation-focused insights into the park’s red squirrel and harvest mice families. Hands-on free activities include pond-dipping and the chance to plant a sunflower or make a fruit hoop bird feeder, as well as nature-inspired colouring and crafts. Visitors are also invited to leave your very own ‘conservation commitment’ message on the ‘Promise Tree’.

“We are thrilled to showcase our ants’ natural behaviours in such an enchanting and ‘extraordinary’ way,” says Kim Bellis, managing director of the park. “Leafcutter ants are defined by teamwork and dedication. What better tribute to a man who has spent his entire life championing the joy and wonder of the natural world?”

Witness the magic – come and join in the celebrations on Friday 8 May with the miniature tea party continuing over the weekend.

Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough!
